The agents of the Central Operative Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard who have been participating since early this Monday in a judicial operation in the Arrecife City Council went to the Tahíche prison, where the former Lanzarote politician and founder of the PIL, Dimas Martín, is serving his sentence, to transfer him to his private home in the town of Guatiza, in the municipality of Teguise, for a search.

In addition, the UCO also searched the home in Costa Teguise of Elena Martín, daughter of the founder of the PIL, who has also been arrested, at noon on Monday. On the other hand, Matías Curbelo, considered in political circles as Dimas Martín's right-hand man, would also be among those arrested.

The police operation was carried out following instructions from the magistrate of the Court of First Instance and Instruction 5 of Arrecife, and the detainees are accused of several crimes against the Public Administration, such as bribery, prevarication, influence peddling, negotiations and activities prohibited to public officials, illegal exactions and against land management.

According to the Civil Guard, the investigation has made it possible to dismantle an organized network dedicated to collecting allegedly illegal commissions from businessmen whose economic interests depend on administrative decisions that are in the hands or under the sphere of influence of public officials and former public officials belonging to the organization, such as the payment of invoices for services provided to the administration, the awarding of contracts or the granting of licenses.
