"After analyzing the consequences caused by the suspension of the Isla de Los Volcanes Rally, both political leaders and representatives of the motorsport world agree on the opportunity to maintain the schedule of planned events and take the necessary steps to recover the celebration of the Isla de Los Volcanes." That is the message that the Cabildo launched this Monday, after the meeting held by the president, María Dolores Corujo, with the president of the Royal Spanish Automobile Federation (RFEDA), Manuel Aviño, and the president of the Las Palmas Automobile Federation, Miguel Ángel Domínguez.
The meeting was also attended by the Minister of Sports of the first island institution, Alfredo Mendoza, and the president of Club Eversport, Víctor Rodríguez. This club is the one that had been organizing both the Isla de Los Volcanes and the rest of the rallies hosted by the island, and after what happened announced that it was suspending all the pending events of the season.
Afterwards, the Federation assured that the rest of the calendar would be maintained, starting with the Haría Climb on June 18, organizing them with its own resources or through another club. However, the presence of Eversport in that meeting could indicate that it has changed its position.
In addition, the Cabildo not only talks about maintaining the rest of the rallies planned for this year, but also about trying to reschedule the Isla de Los Volcanes. “This is a consolidated event, which enjoys the highest reputation in the world of motorsport thanks to the effort over the years of its promoter, Víctor Rodríguez, who enjoys a well-deserved respect from both the drivers and the Federation itself,” said the president, praising the president of Eversport.
“Lanzarote has become a benchmark in the sports field and within the most prestigious events that choose us as their headquarters, the Isla de Los Volcanes Rally occupies a prominent place,” Corujo insisted, who highlighted the "excellent disposition" of the president of the RFEDA, Manuel Aviño, to “make every effort to recover the suspended event.”
The president has "regretted" once again the suspension of the rally and explained that both the RFEDA, the organizer and the Cabildo itself "have committed to maintain the necessary coordination to ensure that the next tests obtain the corresponding authorizations in a timely manner, guaranteeing at the same time the greatest respect for the conservation of the environment and environmental regulations."
“Reconciling the conservation of our natural heritage with the enjoyment of our territory is possible and, furthermore, necessary. No one can doubt that our priority is the protection of our natural spaces and the species that may be affected, something that does not automatically exclude the development of certain activities,” Corujo concluded.
