The Arrecife City Council has invested "a year and a half" to cut down some palm trees and "has not finished the job yet." This is the complaint of Citizen Alternative, which ensures that the palm trees on the Avenida Marítima had to be replaced by trees, but, instead, there are still remains of the pruning in the area.
The formation affirms that at the end of February 2012, the Department of Parks and Gardens cut down a total of 45 palm trees on the Avenida Marítima, between the Casino and the Puente de las Bolas. At that time, the government group defended this action because the palm trees "were sick, presented a deplorable state and were a danger to walkers and vehicles" and assured that they would replace them with large trees.
"A year and a half later, not only has no type of tree been planted, but what remains in the area are the remains of the palm trees protruding on the sidewalk. These circumstances are generating serious inconveniences to passersby, who have already had various mishaps with blows to the feet and falls on the sidewalk. It also makes it difficult for people in wheelchairs to move around," Alternativa Ciudadana has warned.
For this reason, it has asked the City Council to solve "urgently" all these inconveniences caused by "an unfinished job in the middle of Avenida Marítima". Thus, it has urged the government group to finish cleaning the flowerbeds of the remains that were left of the palm trees and to plant trees suitable for the area.
