"Some historical budgets for being the highest that will be presented to the Plenary". This is how Juan Pedro Hernández described the planning of expenses and income of the municipality of Teguise, which this year increases the item allocated to real investments from 6 million euros in 2005 to 11.3 million this year. To reach this figure, the City Council will acquire a bank debt worth 8 million euros that joins two others already existing, for credits that the City Council continues to pay to two banking entities.

The Councilor for Finance, Luciano Pérez, explained that the City Council is in a position to face this new credit, since the current level of indebtedness of the municipal coffers amounts to about 1.7 million annually, when in previous years it reached 3 million. The amortization period foreseen for this new credit is estimated at 10 years so that "we can pay it comfortably", Pérez indicated.

The largest budget item this year is destined to the payment of salaries of municipal personnel, a staff that this year will be increased with new places to cover services of the City Council, and to the current expenses of the maintenance of the City Council and other municipal dependencies. In total, the expenditure in this area amounts to 14.8 million euros.

Real investments are counted at 11.3 million euros, which contemplate as main expense the activities and sports infrastructures, which reaches 6 million euros and includes the construction of a municipal swimming pool in the town of Teguise and a sports center with closed and outdoor facilities for Costa Teguise.

1.5 million euros will be allocated to the paving of urban centers. Other important items contemplated are the acquisition of urban furniture, the improvement of playgrounds, the repairs in the public lighting damaged by the passage of the tropical storm Delta, as well as the acquisition of land for the construction of first necessity housing. Luciano Pérez declared the desire of the City Council to leave all the works contracted in this year.

In addition, the City Council intends to award the cleaning and garbage collection services and the management of the municipal and tourism website.

The Councilor for Finance considers that the budgets maintain a balance between the planned expenses and income. This balance, according to Luciano Pérez, is given by the income that the City Council obtains from the taxes of the census, which this year have increased thanks to the growth of the cadastral values. Teguise already reaches 17,000 cadastral units.

The delay in the presentation of this year's budgets was justified by Luciano Pérez, who affirms that the improvements that have been introduced in the area of Finance, with the incorporation of a new auditor and the installation of a new computer program of accounting -which has forced to train the staff-, have generated some delay.
