The Trade Union of Education Workers of the Canary Islands, STEC-IC, has harshly criticized the Ministry of Education for not hiring a "thousand temporary and substitute teachers", who worked last year. In this way, it has lamented that the Government of the Canary Islands is carrying out "the largest Employment Regulation File (ERE)" of any company in the archipelago and, in addition, has blamed the Executive of "leaving on the street" teachers with seniority that reaches "20 years".
According to what they have denounced through a statement, the Government "of the Canarian Coalition and PP does not consider education as a priority and strategic objective". The member of the National Secretariat of the union, Manuel Marrero Morales, has harshly criticized that the Executive increases subsidies to private education, "while practicing large cuts in the public education system".
Thus, Marrero has assured that "it is impossible" to do a "worse personnel management" like the one carried out by the Ministry of Education. "This year we are surprised, because the evils are magnified and the situation worsens", he insisted.
For all this, the STEC-IC has requested the immediate dismissal of the General Director of Personnel of the Ministry of Education. Likewise, it has recalled that a third of those not hired or dismissed corresponds to temporary and substitute teachers, and the remaining two thirds belong to the secondary body.
Government "without credibility"
For the STEC-IC, the "restrictions imposed by the Ministry" are "a consequence of flagrant breaches of the agreements previously signed by this department and which, subsequently, are not applied". "The credibility of this Government is nil with respect to the agreements it signs with educational and social agents and that it either never applies or, even, does the opposite every time it has the opportunity", he lamented.
In this sense, the union has recalled that the Ministry of Education does not bet on early childhood education, since it intends to "privatize it", does not favor Primary education "because it mixes age groups", nor Secondary education, nor Vocational Training, given the high degree of school dropout in the Canary Islands. "They even impose a new School Map of FP in the Canary Islands, without any negotiation", they insisted from the union.
Therefore, given this situation, STEC-IC has demanded the immediate hiring of, at least, the entire staff that worked last year, to prevent "the deterioration of the public system from continuing".
