The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, and the councilor of Public Works and Sports, Ángel Lago, inaugurated on the afternoon of this Monday, June 23, the renovated El Aulagar court together with the councilor of Culture, César Rijo, the
head of the Tinyala Basketball Club, Salvador Bueno, young people from the club and their families, who were eagerly awaiting this moment.
The intervention carried out is around half a million euros and has been financed by the Municipal Cooperation Plan of the Cabildo de Lanzarote. The symbolic act, which included the unveiling of a commemorative plaque,
the handing over of keys to the Tinyala Basketball Club —a regular user of the facility within the Municipal Sports Schools program— and a visit to the new facilities, brought together young people from the club and their families.
They were able to see first-hand the improvements made, play their first games in the renovated facilities and learn about some of the projects that the City Council plans to carry out in the vicinity, such as the future skate park.
The project, whose drafting was carried out by the southern Consistory, has involved an investment of 480,000 euros and has allowed the expansion and improvement of the multi-purpose court, the installation of two changing rooms equipped with lockers, two bathrooms adapted for people with reduced mobility and a storage space, in addition to the acquisition of new baskets and construction of bleachers, perimeter fencing and lighting.
Óscar Noda values the action as "a strategic investment that responds to this City Council's firm commitment to improving public sports facilities, promoting healthy habits and
meeting spaces for our youth" and thanks the current Minister of Planning and Project Coordination, María Jesús Tovar "for her involvement and collaboration in the execution and justification of the
various items both in works already carried out and in those that are pending, as well as her commitment to finding viable solutions that allow us to continue advancing in municipal development."
For his part, Ángel Lago wanted to thank the Councilor for Public Works of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Jacobo Medina, who could not attend the event, "the commitment so that this work has gone ahead, because inter-administrative support is key so that we can continue to move forward" and stresses that "the Tinyala Club, its young athletes and the residents of the area deserved a decent and fully equipped court, and, therefore, we opted from the beginning for a forceful action, as we have already done in other sports infrastructures in the municipality."
The rehabilitation project of the El Aulagar court has also included the construction of the dividing wall of the plot, as well as the paving and horizontal signage of the parking lot located in the lower part of the plot, next to the dog park.
