The president of the Virginia Park urbanization, Juan Martín, located in Playa Blanca, has warned that the Paradise Island apart-hotel "is eating part of a street" of public ownership. This is happening on India Street, which is a dead-end street with two directions that borders the apart-hotel and also this urbanization. "Where are we going to park now?", he asks. The neighbors will go to a notary "to carry out the minutes of what is happening here", since they intend to go to the Prosecutor's Office. "We feel helpless."

A little over a week and a half ago, Juan Martín realized that the Paradise apart-hotel was carrying out "supposedly illegal works on the same road", a few meters from the urbanization where 240 families live. "They have taken and broken curbs in a part of the road that is attached to the apart-hotel. They have broken the wall and put a fence in the middle of the road, of the public road, to supposedly make private parking spaces," Juan Martín pointed out.

Faced with this situation, Juan Martín contacted the Environment Department of the Yaiza City Council. To his surprise, the Consistory told him that the works were "paralyzed and sealed by decree" since February 10. But there they "continued working".

"Right now they are with machinery," Juan Martín told La Voz. "You can see operators, trucks transporting debris and two excavators," he said. At the moment, "only about 20 or 30 families from the urbanization can park, when before about 100 could." But also, "the fence they have placed does not allow the garbage truck to pass." "This is an injustice and on top of that we have never been notified of anything."

The Department of the Environment of the City Council, according to Juan Martín, sent a local police officer to India Street to verify if the works were indeed continuing. "I, together with another president of another urbanization, approached to speak with the police officer. The agent asked the contractor of the work to show him the municipal license. The police officer saw it and said that everything was correct. But how is it possible if the works were paralyzed by decree?", he asks.

"There is something weird here. I don't know what it is, but it's weird. Everyone is turning a blind eye and this can't be anymore, because the neighbors who live from the gas station to the Pechiguera Lighthouse are not neighbors of Playa Blanca but only to pay taxes. That someone comes now and takes away part of a public street is the last straw," he denounced.

Assignment of land to build a "theme park"

The story of the Paradise Island apart-hotel has been going on for a long time. La Voz published on August 8, 2011, that the Yaiza City Council had approved the start of the procedures to cede public land to build "a theme park" with an aquapark. This apart-hotel has already occupied a plot of the Consistory for years with private sports courts and a minigolf.

Yaiza approved the "viability" of the new project presented by the company in an extraordinary and urgent plenary session, which the opposition denounced had been convened the night before, without providing them with data or documentation. At that time, the government group pointed out that from there the final project would be drafted and put out to tender but, after the controversy that the issue aroused, no initiative of the City Council in this regard has been known again.
