The Nueva Canarias group in the municipality of Teguise announces its "intention to incorporate" a proposal in the City Council that allows "discussing and agreeing on" the island model that is wanted for La Graciosa. This is expressed by the Canarian councilor, Fernando Jiménez, who sees it as "necessary" for the local representatives of the citizens of Teguise and La Graciosa to "propose and coordinate" actions aimed at "improving the living conditions of the people of La Graciosa", hand in hand, as it could not be otherwise, with the civil society of the eighth island.

"From Nueva Canarias we have been defending that La Graciosa cannot continue on the path it has been taking until now. We are in favor of an in-depth discussion about the island model, with exhaustive studies of carrying capacity and impact on the territory presented by the different economic activities and that allow, when the time comes, to agree on measures that favor the sustainability of the island," says Jiménez.

For the party, the study on the carrying capacity of La Graciosa would allow us to know exactly "how we should regulate sensitive matters such as demographics and economic activities, in addition to helping to establish measures that help conserve the island and make it more sustainable without limiting its economic development and social welfare."

Thus, we are in favor, always based on previous studies and the consensus of public administrations and the civil society of La Graciosa, of a "finalist eco-tax that reverts to the commitment to the energy and water sovereignty of the island", as well as in policies aimed at "adaptation and mitigation to climate change".

"We have numerous models in the world that give good account that establishing a tax per visitor allows to improve and protect the destination." In La Graciosa, due to its unique size; for being a protected natural space; and due to the number of annual visits (more than 500,000) "this measure is more than justified", says Fernando Jiménez, who continues alluding that "the eighth island can be an eco-island that combines sustainable development, energy sovereignty and social welfare if we set the right course and measures".

Similarly, Jiménez stresses that these measures must "go hand in hand with the civil society of La Graciosa", which expects a response to entrenched problems such as "urban planning, the water problem, or bureaucracy between four different administrations". That is why, we urge the creation of "a single management body" where all administrations with powers on the island are represented, which will give way to "improving coordination and unblocking entrenched issues".

"Our proposal is to advance in sustainable development and energy sovereignty"

"Any measure we want to implement on the island must have the consent and collaboration of the resident population." Moreover, "they must be the ones who, through the mechanism of public intermediation, agree on their model of coexistence. Our proposal is to advance in sustainability, energy sovereignty and sustainable development. In short, grow better," says Fernando Jiménez.

The EEE model of CC, PP and VOX

In another order of things, NC wants to express its "amazement" at what happened in the municipal plenary session last Tuesday when the ultra-conservative entente of CC, PP and VOX was confirmed, passing "the roller of negativity" to initiatives such as the installation of shade areas in the patios of educational centers; or the repair of public bathrooms, carried out by councilor Fernando Jiménez.

According to Jiménez, "the government group has developed a new model of justification based on the EEE category by which they reject all our proposals for a supposed "we are on it". "I hope that this EEE is not infinite and at some point they will respond that the measure has already been executed," says the councilor.
