The workers of the company Moyma, which provides home care service in Arrecife, have once again called an indefinite strike starting next Monday, March 14. This has been announced by Intersindical Canaria, which denounces that these employees have already gone two months without receiving their payroll, which adds to a long period of delay in the payment of salaries.

The situation of these workers has been denounced for months. They even called a strike, but finally called it off at the last minute when they received the back pay. Now, the situation is repeated and the company owes them, according to reports, the salaries for January and February.

From Intersindical Canaria they warn of the "helplessness" of these workers and question the attitude of the City Council of Arrecife, which depends on this service. This Monday, the mayor, José Montelongo, and the Councilor for Social Services, Eva de Anta, offered a press conference on this issue, specifically to respond to the criticisms that Somos Lanzarote had launched. From this party they accused the government group of being behind the sanctions applied by the company to some workers, in what they consider to be a "reprisal" for having participated in acts of protest for their situation in recent weeks.

In addition to denying Somos Lanzarote, the mayor and the councilor insisted at that press conference that the tender is about to be called to re-tender this service and award it to another company. Regarding the current situation, they reiterated that Moyma has a debt with Social Security, so the City Council is not being able to deliver the money for this service to the company.

"The home care workers are once again helpless, since no one is taking care of their situation," insists Intersindical. In addition, he stresses that "all" these workers want is to "charge to be able to live their normal lives, pay and eat." The union emphasizes that they do not even "claim materials to do their job", which they say they have often had to pay out of their own pocket because the company did not provide them, nor "that they put a car to be able to do their job, as happens in other municipalities." "They only claim their money for doing a job," he concludes.
