The mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, regrets that many Lanzarote residents are trying to ask for work in the La Santa hotel complex, which is immersed in the expansion works. "It is regrettable and it makes me very sad to see lines of people queuing at the La Santa fence to see if they will let them in and give them work," Machín said on Radio Lanzarote. Even, the mayor assured that the unemployed have gone to the City Hall itself to ask him for work in La Santa.
"They go to the City Hall every day, but I tell them that I can't do anything, that I can't give them work. The company has its own staff, and I understand that too," said the first mayor of Tinajo. Precisely for this reason, although Machín has assured that the expansion works of the hotel complex are going at a "very good" pace and, even, ahead of the "established work plan", he would like them to be even faster.
"I would like it to be much faster, because that way they would need many more workers and could give work to people, who are desperate," said Machín. The expansion project could end in "less than a year and a half", according to the mayor of Tinajo.
"It is a very important project, because it will be a benchmark complex," defended Machín, stressing that it will be the only sports establishment in the world that will have three Olympic swimming pools.
Machín also advanced that other works will have to be undertaken, such as cleaning the mud from the lake, which could cost about 300,000 euros. It would also be necessary to clean up the surroundings of the hotel complex and, even, there is also the intention to create "football campuses", so that the first division teams worldwide can do their pre-seasons on the island.
