The roads of Lanzarote now have two new fixed radars installed on the LZ-2, which are added to the two mobile radars owned by the Civil Guard, and which will begin to operate from Wednesday.
The radar system is connected to a data analysis center in León (Castilla y León) that manages the fine system in a period of 72 hours after the infraction is detected. During the presentation, which was attended by the Insular Director of the State Administration, Carmelo García Déniz, the current accident figures on roads were announced, which have decreased on the island from 9 to 3 deaths on interurban roads, although fatal accidents have increased on urban roads, with a total of 3, triple that of last year despite the fact that the year has not yet ended.
"We hope that with the radars it will be possible to reduce the accident rate to a minimum. The Civil Guard has announced that, although the radars do not come into operation until Wednesday, there has been a notable decrease in speed on the LZ-2," declared García Déniz.
