The Arrecife City Council has confirmed that the capital of Lanzarote will premiere in September, after "many delays and waits from the Government of the Canary Islands", the new building that will house the CEIP La Destila school. The mayor of Arrecife, Ástrid Pérez, and the Councilor for Education, Saro González Perdomo, visited the classrooms these days to check the equipment and new furniture that the students will use for the first time.
With the capacity to accommodate 450 students, the new educational center located in the La Destila neighborhood is structured on three floors: a ground floor where six classrooms for early childhood education and six for primary education are located, the administrative area, the school cafeteria and the leisure areas, playgrounds and garden; an upper floor with six primary education classrooms and specialized classes for disciplines such as music, computer science or support, and where the gymnasium, the library, the teachers' room and the offices are also located; and, finally, a basement, with an area of 770 square meters and which will serve as a garage and general warehouse for the educational center.

New improvement features were subsequently added to the initial project of the educational center, which involved the drafting and approval of a modification to the construction project, including the installation of a covered sports court located on the roof of the building, making "maximum" use of the space of the educational center, and a kitchen for the school cafeteria.
Last June, the mayor of Arrecife, Ástrid Pérez, received the keys to the school, which were handed over by the then president of the Government of the Canary Islands, assuming from that moment the City Council, according to the regulations in the Canary Islands, the tasks of maintenance and conservation.

An investment of 3.1 million euros, with home automation facilities, will allow efficient use of the facilities and turn this school designed by the Lanzarote architect Martín Martín "into one of the best educational centers for children and primary school due to its design and equipment, which will set a trend", according to the City Council. On the ground floor, where the classrooms for children are located, in addition to a sports court, there are recreation areas that are redistributed with play areas for each of the classrooms.
