In his already traditional meeting of fraternization of José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero with the militancy of the PSOE of Lanzarote, the former president valued the position of the party in the Canary Islands and described the moment as "historic, convinced that on this occasion it will be presided over again in the Canary Islands, which would be very good for a socialist government, and also for the PSOE, with Ángel Víctor at the head".

In the review of current news, he assured that the decision to exhume Franco's remains from the Valley of the Fallen "is a consequence of a healthy democratic transition that is strengthened daily, because Democracy is a living process, which is being endowed with content; and it is extraordinary that the younger generations complete that task".

He also recommended to the leader of the Popular Party, Pablo Casado, "something more of reflection on his position regarding this decision" and in general, to the parties of the parliamentary arch "a firmer and more defined position": "I do not think that Democracy has treated the Franco family badly".

Regarding the independence aspirations of a part of the Catalan community, Zapatero reiterated the need to "recover a lot of time for political dialogue and close the wounds of October 1 because only from politics will we find a satisfactory solution".

"A socialist Canary Islands"

The current regional secretary general, Ángel Víctor Torres, ratified in his speech his intention to present himself to the Primary Elections to aspire to the presidency of the Autonomous Executive, once the dates are confirmed by the Federal.

Regarding the current nationalist government, Torres criticized "the political incoherence of the Canarian Coalition, by voting against a spending ceiling, proposed by the PSOE, which increases by 2,500 million for social policies and recovery of lost rights, while the previous year, with Rajoy as president and a more restrictive spending ceiling, the CC Government voted in favor".

The general secretary of the PSOE of Lanzarote and parliamentary spokesperson, Dolores Corujo, acted as hostess in an act aimed at fraternization, meeting with the militancy and consolidating the ties between groups.

For the second consecutive year, the gardens of the La Florida winery, owned by Ginés González, were the space chosen to host this meeting, on a Sunday morning in which there was no shortage of family photos, conversation and good wine.

Zapatero has been enjoying his holidays with his family on the island since August 3 and announced that he will be on the Island "until the end of the month".

The traditional meeting with his party colleagues has been attended, among others, by the general secretary of the PSOE in Lanzarote, mayor of San Bartolomé and spokesperson for the Socialist Parliamentary Group in the Parliament of the Canary Islands, María Dolores Corujo; the regional parliamentarian Marcos Hernández; the spokesperson for the PSOE in the Cabildo of Lanzarote, José Juan Cruz; the regional deputies Gustavo Matos and Iñaki Lavandera;  and the mayor of Arrecife, Eva de Anta.
