The mayor of the Tinajo City Council, Jesús Machín, has denied the accusations of the socialist councilor in the Tinajero Consistory, Begoña Hernández, who criticized the expense that the rental of a high-end Mercedes has meant for the mayor's "personal use" and its corresponding mileage.
The councilor pointed out that there had been an investment of “6,825 euros for a year and a half of rent and 865 euros for mileage in just three months,” but Machín calls these statements “regrettable and false.” According to the mayor, the councilor “is a liar” and all she wants is to “deceive the citizens of Tinajo based on fallacies.”
The mayor assures that the car has never been rented for his personal use and points out that "that car, which costs the City Council 17 euros a day, was rented at the time with a special price for City Council work." He also explains that this vehicle is also used by sports clubs and even the Department of Social Affairs on some weekends.
“I average 100 kilometers a day, I spend more than 500 euros a month on fuel and I barely charge two hundred and something,” he added regarding the money he charges the Consistory for mileage. Regarding that specific vehicle, he acknowledges that he did use it in the months of April and May, but “without charging any gasoline to the City Council.” “That can be proven,” he maintains, and criticizes that the rest of the councilors “have charged their corresponding kilometers until the month of May, while I have only charged from January to March.”
“I have never tried to profit from the City Council, in the first legislature I did not charge a single cent from the City Council and I have proven it beyond any doubt,” continues the Tinajero mayor. “Something that this PSOE councilor also seems to be unaware of is that I have never been plugged in during all the years I have been in politics, everyone thinks that the thief is of the same condition.”
In addition, Machín insists that this type of “lies” are something recurrent on the part of this councilor. "She even protested in a plenary session because I was taking food from Social Services to some residents, something that happened even during the pandemic for those most in need, who expressly asked me to visit them," he adds.
"The councilor knows perfectly well that the Police have asked me to appoint a person for service and technical maintenance for when a problem arises and she should know, the whole town knows, that for any issue that arises in Tinajo, I promptly go with any other car from the city council depending on the situation and I go because I understand politics as a loyal service to the citizen,” says the mayor of Tinajo.
"I do about 100 kilometers a day, just going to Arrecife twice is already 80 kilometers, but sometimes I go up to three times a day to defend the interests of the Tinajeros and, in addition, I travel practically all the streets of the municipality several times a week," he adds. “So much data on kilometers but you are unable to travel two kilometers to go to the town hall to know the truth, although of course, that would mean worrying about the residents and other issues and not just inventing lies to have two minutes of ridiculous and unfounded glory in the media,” Machín concludes.
