The home care workers of the Arrecife City Council have announced an indefinite strike that will begin on February 10, unless they can get their demands met beforehand. According to reports from Intersindical Canaria, the employees "have had problems every month to collect their payrolls", and currently have not yet collected their December salary.
Home care in Arrecife is managed through a company, the Moyma group, which took over the service in February 2015. "The workers have endured until they have seen that this is going to get worse," the union says, explaining the reason that has led them to call this strike.
For its part, the company blames the City Council for these delays in the payment of payrolls, since it claims that the Consistory in turn maintains a debt with them. Given this situation, Intersindical demands that the Consistory "assume the payment of the salaries owed until the conflict is resolved".
In addition to proposing a strike notice from February 10, the workers will carry out other acts of protest. Thus, they will concentrate this Friday at 13 hours at the doors of the City Council and on Saturday at 9.30 hours. Afterwards, they will repeat that act of protest every Friday and Saturday of February in the same place and at the same time until a solution is given to them.
