"I deeply regret that she does not accept the realities that concern her." This is how the mayor of Yaiza, Gladys Acuña, has shown herself after the statement issued by the CC councilor in the municipality, Nancy Peña, through which she announces that she will file a lawsuit for slander and libel against Acuña, for some statements in which she accused the CC councilor of "having committed illegalities that have been endorsed by court rulings."
"When one is a public figure, what you cannot expect is that people do not talk about you, because when you jump into the arena you are subject to being named for good and bad. I know a lot about this and you will also know, that authentic barbarities have been said about me. I have been humiliated as a person, but when you are a politician you have to have sufficient intellectual capacity to endure and digest it," Acuña said before the microphones of Radio Lanzarote.
Acuña has denied that she is immersed in a judicial process, after Nancy Peña has assured that she "has pending judicial cases" and that, "presumably, she has committed various illegalities that are included in an extensive summary." "As of today, there is no order announcing that I have been notified that I am judicially charged, which does not mean that in two or three months I will not have it, but as of today, no," Acuña stated.
"It is true that when the "Unión" operation arrives in Yaiza and they visit the Town Hall, I am called to testify to the Civil Guard and, among other things, I am told about a decree to stop some works that Dimas was carrying out in a house he has in Los Rostros. This house is surrounded by a protected natural area. But look how curious the thing is, that next to Dimas's house is Nancy Peña's, so I understand that if the protected natural area is for some, it should be for others," added the mayor.
Likewise, Acuña has recalled that Nancy Peña "is a partner" in a company, "which has a sentence for a license for a building built on the beachfront and where there are technical reports that say it exceeds the height and does not comply with the regulations." "I am not the one who says it, a judge says it. And I deeply regret that she does not accept the realities that concern her," Acuña said.
The mayor of Yaiza has assured that "it is not the first time" that Nancy Peña has filed a criminal complaint against her. "She already filed another one for the 2007 elections. Complaint that has been dismissed," Gladys Acuña concluded.
