The Tourism Councilor of the Cabildo, Echedey Eugenio, met this Saturday morning with the Strike Committee of the Tourist Centers in Jameos del Agua, but the meeting has not served to bring positions closer after five days of stoppages. "The representatives of the workers transmitted to the councilor their refusal to stop the protests while their demands are not met and they are paid the amount of 1.5 million euros that they consider to be owed to them", the Corporation maintains in a statement.
Thus, it affirms that the Committee has rejected the request made by Eugenio, who asked the workers to suspend the strike "as a sign of good will" until they are summoned by the Canary Islands Labor Court. It should be remembered that the councilor requested last Thursday the mediation of this body, given the impossibility of unblocking this conflict, which keeps all the Tourist Centers closed, with the exception of the exterior areas of the Monument to the Farmer.
For their part, the Business Committee affirms that they will attend that meeting before the Labor Court, although they insist that the way to call off the strike "immediately" is for the management of the Centers to "comply" with the collective agreement signed in 2014 and "execute the ruling" of the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands that ruled in favor of the workers, with respect to the payment of certain salary supplements.
For his part, although the workers deny it, Eugenio insists that what the Committee is claiming "would imply an illegal salary increase, since we have already complied with the ruling for the new workers and even offered the old ones an increase above what it requires and what was agreed in the collective agreement in force".
