CC will transfer the problem of jable extraction to the plenary session of the Cabildo and the Parliament

“If the Government of the Canary Islands and the Cabildo of Lanzarote want to prohibit the extraction of aggregates, they should do so now, and then explain why all public and private works are paralyzed,” says Migdalia Machín.

The island secretary of Coalición Canaria (CC) in Lanzarote, Migdalia Machín, states that her party will present different initiatives so that both the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Parliament of the Canary Islands "seek an urgent solution to the problem that transporters are having when it comes to extracting jable, a vital material for construction".

As explained by the representatives of the Transport Cooperative of Lanzarote (LANZTRANSPORT) in a meeting held this Monday with the nationalist leader, the parliamentarians of the Canarian Nationalist Group (CC-PNC-AHÍ) Oswaldo Betancort and Jesús Machín, and the councilor of the Nationalist Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote (CC-PNC), Domingo Cejas, "the projects necessary to obtain the pertinent authorization have been paralyzed for some time in the Ministry of the Environment of the Government of the Canary Islands without, to date, anyone having explained the reasons".

“We do not understand what is happening, why the PSOE and Podemos are putting all kinds of impediments and the authorizations have not been given despite the projects for extraction having been presented to the Ministry of Industry of the Government of the Canary Islands”, says Machín, who emphasizes that “someone will have to explain why transporters are being treated as if they were criminals”.

And it is that, CC points out that with the projects presented and awaiting an authorization that never arrives, "transporters have been forced to stop extracting sand and the extractions that are taking place in the area between Soo, Muñique and Famara, an area recognized as a mining extraction area, are from the only company that has a permit, therefore legally".

Therefore, after this Monday's meeting with those affected, Coalición Canaria has committed to presenting different initiatives in search of an explanation for so many impediments.

“This goes beyond the political debate, it is an island debate, about our future and knowing where we are going”, emphasizes Migdalia Machín.

Thus, Coalición Canaria has committed to raising a motion to the next plenary session of the Island Corporation, and to presenting questions to the Ministries of Industry and the Environment of the Government of the Canary Islands, so that both the socialists and the purple formation "say why transporters are not answered nor are the files resolved so they can extract".

The nationalists recall that already in the plenary session held last April, the Nationalist Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote, given the knowledge that there were new problems with the authorizations for the extraction of aggregates on the island, due to the expiration of many of them, with the consequent increase in prices, "asked what the situation was in this regard and what plans or measures were planned to respond to the problem raised". CC points out that the response from the president of the PSOE was simply "that the Cabildo had no powers in this matter".

“All we are saying is that both the Government of the Canary Islands and the Cabildo of Lanzarote have to decide once and for all what they want to do. If they want to prohibit the extraction of aggregates, they should do so now, and then explain why all public and private works are paralyzed”, asserts Migdalia Machín.
