CC OO teaches union delegates practices to take care of the environment from companies

The objective is to achieve sustainable development as well as quality in living and working conditions

Environmental care is a concern that extends among all sectors of society. The trade union Comisiones Obreras (CC OO) is no exception. For this reason, yesterday it held a conference with union delegates to transfer practices with which nature is not harmed.

First there was an exhibition on the subject. The second part was dedicated to the debate of the measures. Now it will be the representatives of the workers of the companies who will transfer these concerns to their colleagues. In this way they will try to introduce these behaviors in collective bargaining.

Lines of action

There are multiple ways to carry out practices to maintain the environment in appropriate conditions. However, the union insists on some lines of action. One of them is the development of sectors related to renewable energies.

This would mean, among other things, promoting the use of solar panels or making better use of wind farms to obtain electricity. Another way to act is through the recycling of waste such as that which can be carried out, among others, in the tourism sector. This would be a great advance because tourism is the pillar of economic development of the Island.

Land management

For Comisiones Obreras, land management is also essential. In this sense, the objective of the union is to take into account both the interests of employers and the population in general. Finally, CC OO also pointed to increasing the use of public transport. On this last aspect, it should be noted that a large number of private vehicles would no longer be used while generating employment since in a place like Lanzarote it would be necessary to increase the number and frequency of buses.

Situation

In the case of Lanzarote, there are opinions and documents that prove that it is one of the territories where practices of environmental care began to be carried out sooner. One of the best examples is the distinction of being a Biosphere Reserve. However, the accelerated wear and tear of the planet forces us to take urgent measures for its care. It is a task in which the whole society must be involved. Thus, from the union they promote that it is the workers who promote policies for the protection of nature.

Within the labor activity, the other large sector that must be involved is that of employers. Carmen Marrero acknowledged that awareness campaigns must be carried out among them. This is because it is the owners of the companies who have to invest in environmental care systems.

However, most are reluctant because it involves a significant expense. "What we have to do is make them see that this investment in the medium and long term will be more profitable," concluded the secretary of health and environment of the trade union organization.
