The spokesperson for the Canarian Coalition in the Tías City Council, Amado Vizcaíno, describes the mayor, José Juan Cruz Saavedra, and his government group as "irresponsible" for rejecting, in the plenary session held this Tuesday, an initiative in which it was proposed "that a process of review and improvement of the placement of tourist signage be initiated"

“I find it regrettable and denounce that while this government was rejecting my motion, yesterday the fall of one of these signs caused a person to be injured and taken to the hospital. A three-meter-high sign that, when falling, hit a pedestrian in the legs. If it hits her in the head, it kills her,” says the councilor, adding that this same Wednesday, the wind has knocked down a second sign.

The nationalists point out that more than two months ago Amado Vizcaíno denounced that the new signage in the municipality could only be described as “a real mess” and asked the Council “to take immediate measures”.

“We already warned about what could happen because some indicators were placed at such a low height that they pose a real danger to pedestrians, others have ended up lying on the ground and others simply invite confusion,” he recalls.

Likewise, the councilor emphasizes that within this "nonsense", the town of La Tiñosa has been left in a brief sign "in which they have not even bothered to identify the area, ignoring the initial objective, which was to promote the oldest part of Puerto del Carmen as a tourist attraction.”

"Far from worrying about the situation, the mayor said during the plenary session that we should be calm, because the company that has placed the signs has not charged anything, that no work certification has been approved and that the old signage has not been removed because it has not been received and he does not know if they will do it. Come on, nonsense,” adds the spokesperson for the nationalists in the southern Council.
