The Organizing Committee of the Baccalaureate Evaluation for University Access (EBAU) 2020 in the Canary Islands approved this Wednesday, April 29, the modification of the calendar of the ordinary call for said test to extend it by one day, so that the exams will be held on July 1, 2, 3 and 4, instead of the first three days as initially decided.

The objective of this change, agreed in an extraordinary meeting held this Wednesday afternoon between the members of the Commission (representatives of the two public universities of the Canary Islands and the Ministry of Education, Universities, Culture and Sports of the Regional Government), "is to avoid gathering more than 4,000 students on the first day of the tests in the general phase and thus guarantee the safety of the people who take the exams."

Thus, according to the new established calendar, the students are divided into two days in said general phase instead of being concentrated in a single one as previously planned.

As a result, Science students will take the Spanish Language and Literature exam on July 1, followed by the 1st Foreign Language, and in the afternoon session, the History of Spain exam; while students of Humanities, Social Sciences and Arts will have these tests in the same order and schedule, but the next day, July 2. The rest of the tests will take place on the 3rd and 4th. The calendar of the extraordinary call of the EBAU 2020 is not modified.

According to the Government of the Canary Islands, "this new structure implies a greater effort in organization and human resources allocated to it." However, "it also contributes to the tests being carried out with greater security guarantees," it is added.

As a result of this decision, it is pointed out that the first day of the EBAU will bring together about 1,250 students on the Tafira Campus of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC), "which facilitates the maintenance of adequate health measures."

The University of La Laguna (ULL), which will hold the tests at the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Fairgrounds, would thus reduce by half the number of students who take the tests each day.
