The Arrecife City Council has already started the integral remodeling of El Greco and Valencia streets, with the aim of "improving pedestrian accessibility in the city center."

The mayor of Arrecife, Astrid Pérez, accompanied by the Councilor for Urban Planning, Eduardo Placeres, made a visit this Wednesday to the works, which began in the middle of this month of March by the company Lanzagrava, S.L., the successful bidder of the contract, with a budget of 250,260 euros and an execution period of 4 months.

From the Consistory they point out that the works involve the change of the pedestrian pavement and the rolling layer, as well as the installation of public lighting, irrigation and rainwater network. In addition, it also contemplates the placement of gardening and the renovation of road signs and luminaires for low consumption ones.

“Despite all the setbacks we have experienced due to the pandemic and the economic crisis derived from it, and the current rise in energy and fuel prices, we are satisfied that the projects that we have launched since we arrived at the City Council are becoming a reality this year,” says the capital's mayor, Astrid Pérez.

The City Council details that pedestrian accessibility will be improved, creating a single platform, through the integral remodeling of both El Greco and Valencia streets, as well as the pedestrian promenade or alley that leads to Fred Olsen Avenue in El Reducto. “With the same philosophy of other projects that have been presented for the city, such as the one on Canalejas street, which favor accessibility through semi-pedestrianization,” says the head of Urban Planning, Eduardo Placeres.

With the new urban configuration, from the Arrecife City Council they maintain that these streets “will not have a slope between the sidewalks and the road,” except for a two percent slope where the manholes for rainwater drainage will be located.

El Greco street will have sidewalks that alternate “from 1.90 meters to 2.68 wide”, depending on the line of the buildings, while the parking lots, which will be maintained on one side of the road and not on both as until now, “will be 2 meters wide and the traffic lane 3 meters”.

From the City Council they also explain that the sidewalks of Valencia street will have dimensions “of 2.47 meters wide, and 3 meters for the circulation of vehicles”, while El Callejón, “will remain totally pedestrian, with a width of 2.30 meters”.

The Arrecife City Council project also includes “the reduction of the speed of vehicles in the area to a maximum of 20 kilometers”, since it is established as a residential area. The work also complies with the regulations for the use of people with reduced mobility, and the location of devices for parking bicycles is also contemplated.
