The Arrecife City Council, through the Department of Cleaning, directed by Roberto Herbón, has launched since last week a cleaning plan for rainwater drains throughout the municipality, in prevention of the arrival of the first autumn rains.
As explained by the Consistory, there are two teams of workers in charge of cleaning the 340 drains in the city. "That is the number of rainwater drains, the rest are for sanitation, and according to information from Canal Gestión, they are also undertaking a cleaning plan," said the councilor.
In addition, he announces that a third group with new personnel is expected to join in the coming days, with the intention that "by mid-November all cleaning work on the entire rainwater drain network will be in perfect condition."
The conditioning and cleaning work consists of lifting the grilles, checking the rainwater channeling ducts and removing debris that obstructs the water flow.
"At this time it is important to remind citizens that we must avoid throwing waste on public roads that could obstruct the drains. Cigarette butts, soft drink cans, bottles and wet wipes are some of the waste that is usually collected in the drains, and should be in the litter bins installed in the city and not obstructing the passage of rainwater," warns the Cleaning Councilor.
"This cleaning plan for the Arrecife drain network is carried out every year in prevention of the arrival of the first rains, and is also part of one of the many actions that the City Council is carrying out to avoid setbacks due to possible flooding in homes, businesses, or the problems that are generated in road traffic and in the traffic light network," they point out from the Consistory.
