The Arrecife City Council, through the Urban Planning area, continues "at a good pace" with the works on Canalejas Street, which will turn this central Arrecife street into a street with shaded and rest areas for citizens. The works are estimated to be completed in June.

“These works, which are another commitment from this government group, include, in addition to improving accessibility and environmental content, actions such as the first irrigation network in Arrecife or the rainwater plan to avoid flooding in the area,” Astrid Pérez highlighted.

The project covers the reconditioning of Canalejas Street between Avenida Mancomunidad and Coronel Benz Street, improving pedestrian traffic and accessibility along the entire street. With a budget of 473,878.89 euros, it also includes the planting of trees, the installation of modern street furniture, the widening of sidewalks and the improvement of accessibility in the area for people with reduced mobility.

Between Avenida Mancomunidad and Democracia Street there will be a lane with a width of 3.20 meters, with sidewalks of 1.80 meters wide on its south side and variable on its north side. A road with directional pavement guide for the blind is planned and a 1 meter wide strip where street furniture and tree pits will be located, every 6 meters there will be flamboyant and jacaranda trees, and subsequently a 3.4 strip of road passage for pedestrians and authorized vehicles.

The paved section of Canalejas Street will have a difference in level between the sidewalk and the road of 18 centimeters to minimize the entry of rainwater that runs from Tiburcio and Carlos Sáenz Infante streets towards Canalejas, generating stagnant water in the area, so drains are planned at that point, which is the lowest point of the street elevation.

The total area of the project is 2,074 square meters that are developed along 168 linear meters by 10 meters wide. The project also develops the action towards Avenida Mancomunidad in the roundabout accessing Canalejas Street and two squares will be created on both sides of the access, with the repaving of this space and its adaptation and accessibility.
