The Department of Culture of the Arrecife City Council has taken a firm step towards social inclusion with the recent signing of an agreement with the company Signalanz, dedicated to sign language interpretation.

Thanks to this collaboration, the events organized by the Department that require it will have a sign language interpreter, facilitating the accessibility of deaf people or people with hearing difficulties to the city's cultural activities.

This September, several of the most important cultural events of the municipal program will already incorporate this service, as could be seen last weekend during the celebration of the Canarias Surf Film Festival.

The presentation of the book 'Ana Viciosa, the lady of Tinajo' will also have this service, next September 19, and the inauguration of the La Lapa comic exhibition, scheduled for the 27th.

Likewise, the Tensamba Festival, which will take place on September 21, will have sign language interpretation, underlining Arrecife's commitment to a culture free of barriers. "We want everyone to feel part of the culture in Arrecife, regardless of their hearing abilities. This agreement with Signalanz allows us to move towards a more inclusive and accessible culture for all," said the councilor.

Inclusive dance

Within this commitment to a culture without barriers, one of the most relevant events that Arrecife will host this month will be the workshop 'Dansign for all', a unique inclusive dance activity that combines body movement with sign language, organized by El Jablero and Gestionart-e, with the sponsorship of the Department of Culture of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, and the collaboration of Cultura Arrecife.

The workshop, which will be taught by the renowned artist Itahisa Dubois on September 18 at the Argana Baja Sociocultural Center from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., is designed for all ages (from 6 years old). This workshop seeks to show how sign language and dance can become powerful tools for communication and universal expression.

This was explained by councilor Abigail González Guillén, who emphasizes that "this event is designed for the whole family and is a wonderful opportunity to connect through movement and expression, without barriers." Registration for the workshop is now open and can be done through the web, with a price of 15 euros for adults and 8 euros for children under 18 years.

The organization of this type of event reaffirms the commitment of the Area led by González, to make culture an accessible and inclusive space, where all people can fully enjoy the activities, regardless of their abilities. With the incorporation of sign language interpreters and the celebration of inclusive workshops, the city continues to open new avenues for the participation of the entire population.
