Women live on average eight years longer than men in Lanzarote and the longest-lived are those from Haría, according to figures from the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics collected by the Cabildo Data Center regarding deaths registered on the island in 2018.
Specifically, in that year there were a total of 757 deaths in Lanzarote, with 74 years being the average age of death. In the case of women, however, this was 78 years, while that of men was 70.
Lanzarote is below the Canary Islands average, where the average age of death was 76.4 years, with that of men being 73.5 and that of women being 79.7.
Average age of death by municipality
By municipality, Haría and Tinajo recorded the highest average age of death, specifically 79 and 77 years of age respectively. In the northern municipality, the average age of death for women was 84 years, while in Tinajo it was 81. Regarding men, however, the average age of death was higher in Tinajo, where it reached 75 years, while in Haría it was 73.
Regarding the rest of the municipalities, in Arrecife the average age of death was 73 years, with that of women being 78 and that of men being 69. On the other hand, in San Bartolomé, the average age of death was 75 years, with only a one-year difference between men and women, whose average age of death was 75 and 76 years respectively.
As for Teguise, the average age of death was 72 years, with that of women being 76 and that of men being 69. Meanwhile, in Tías, 75 years was the average age of death, with that of women being 81 years and that of men being 75.
Finally, Yaiza records the lowest average age of death, at 69 years. In this municipality, the average age of death for women was 75 years and that of men ten years less.
