About thirty tourist guides from Lanzarote gathered this Wednesday, in the Real street of Arrecife, to demand that their professionalism be taken into account.
Under the motto 'Choose well who guides you', the Association of Tourist Guides of Lanzarote (APIT) joined other calls that were held throughout Spain. With it, the tourist guides wanted to pay tribute to the health personnel, Security forces, cleaning staff, food, etc., for their work during the coronavirus pandemic and emphasize "the importance of having trained and experienced professionals", extending it to their profession.
Likewise, they wanted to appeal to society in general, public representatives and visitors "to continue exercising responsibility as consumers in their day to day, prioritizing local products and legal activities."

"All the guides of Lanzarote are self-employed, we are unemployed, we all contribute, we are 100% legal, and we wanted to emphasize the importance of counting on us when planning visits or doing activities", said the vice president of APIT Lanzarote, Inés Gómez.
As she explained to La Voz, there are currently 50 professionals who are part of the Association of Tourist Guides of Lanzarote, although there are about 100 on the island. "Now we are a bit expectant," said Inés Goméz, who said that they do not expect to return to normal "until October or November." "Because we are a bit at the end of the chain. There have to be flights for tourists to come, there have to be services, hotels and restaurants...", she concluded.
