A total of 30 people, including agents of the Local Police of Tinajo, Civil Guard and the Citizen Security and Intervention Unit of Arrecife (USCI), watched over the security of the La Vegueta festival, which was held this past Saturday after two years of absence due to the pandemic.
The mayor of the municipality, Jesús Machín, has celebrated on Radio Lanzarote the return of a festival that had a successful attendance, as young and not so young people crowded the town of Tinajo. However, and despite the high number of people, the mayor assures that the festival took place "without incidents."
It should be remembered that one of the characteristics of the festival was the extraordinary bus service organized by the Cabildo of Lanzarote, which established a service at 04 hours that connected La Vegueta with Arrecife. “There were three buses that left the town, because that's how we planned the device, in addition to the presence of taxis. Thanks to that, at 5 in the morning there was practically no one in the town,” says the mayor.
In addition, to further guarantee security, the mayor of Tinajo assures that there was a Local Police car that was “patrolling the town” all night, in order to avoid possible conflicts or “hooliganism” among the attendees.
“I felt proud, because for me it has been the best party in terms of security and people's behavior,” says the mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, who points out that this weekend there will be “the same security control.”
No drinks in the kiosk from 02:00
There were so many people who came to La Vegueta, that both the kiosk located in the festival and the bar of the Socio-cultural Center ran out of drinks “from 2 in the morning.”
“I am a witness that this happened. They prepared for a quantity and it was exceeded, but I already told those responsible to be better prepared next week,” says the mayor.
The absence of drinks when the festival was halfway through is an example that the attendance forecasts were greatly exceeded, although Jesús Machin assures that “that high number of people in La Vegueta was expected.” In addition, it should be noted that it was not the only place where there were events this weekend, since Femés celebrated the festivities in honor of San Marcial, and the southern town also had concerts that ended at 01:30 hours.
