The residents of the town of Tahíche went on a pilgrimage on Saturday afternoon in honor of Santiago Apostol. They departed from the vicinity of the hermitage where the Patron Saint is located and toured several streets of the town.
Throughout the tour, the party songs of the different groups were heard, dressing the streets of Tahíche with color and joy. Among the participants were the family of Los Cebolleros, from Gáldar (Gran Canaria); Los Cabuqueros, from Arucas (Gran Canaria), the Gaida folklore group, from Tías, and the Guanapay folklore group, from Teguise, the largest group.
Also present were the Senior Citizens of Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, Guamaray, Guagime and the parranda led by the folklorist Santiago Torres de la Fe, from Arrecife.
The residents of Tahíche decorated their carts as they do every year. In addition, they mingled with the public, singing and cheering the tour. They were also able to taste the typical products, made for the occasion. There was no shortage of good Lanzarote wine to refresh their throats.
Back at the hermitage, the image of Santiago Apóstol awaited the pilgrims to receive the offerings of various products that were then destined for the neediest families. The folklore groups also made their offerings with their songs and dances.
Once the pilgrimage-offering was over, the public moved to the Santiago El Mayor sociocultural center, where they enjoyed the Baile del Romero until the early hours of the morning.
