The consumption of audiovisual media (television, home cinema, Internet, and radio), listening to music, reading, practicing recreational cooking, and taking care of their pets are the main activities in which the people from the Canary Islands spend their average 12 hours and 34 minutes of leisure time, discounting sleep hours and household chores, during the weekend.
Specifically, according to the survey conducted by the Facilisimo.com group, the people from the Canary Islands dedicate this time to receptive or intellectual activities, that is, watching television (25.88%), surfing the Internet (20.29%), listening to music (18.06%), reading (14.33%), listening to the radio (11.35%).
On the other hand, if we talk about more active tasks, what they like the most is recreational cooking, to which they dedicate 29.95% of their active leisure time, followed by taking care of their pets (19.81%), gardening (17.97%, DIY (17.05%) and decoration (15.20%).
By gender, men (12 hours and 46 minutes) and women (12 hours and 39 minutes) spend the same amount of time on leisure activities at home, but women invest 2 hours and 15 minutes more than men in household chores.
Regarding these domestic activities in the home, cleaning is mentioned by the majority of the people from the Canary Islands as the task to which they dedicate the most time on the weekend, followed by caring for family members, non-recreational cooking and, finally, washing and ironing clothes.
By age group, in terms of active leisure activities, recreational cooking is the favorite for the people from the Canary Islands between 26 and 65 years old, while taking care of their pets is the first option for those between 18 and 25. Regarding receptive and intellectual leisure activities, television and home cinema capitalize on the preferences of the four age groups surveyed. Those who spend the most time on the Internet are the people from the Canary Islands between 36 and 45 years old.
But if they had more free time, what would they like to dedicate it to? Well, according to the survey, the people from the Canary Islands would dedicate more time to television and home cinema, surfing the Internet, listening to music and reading. But they would also like to increase the time dedicated to recreational cooking, gardening and taking care of their pets.
