The Cabildo of Lanzarote has joined the measures launched by the State Government to reduce the amount of intercity transport passes. Thus, the services will have an additional 50% discount for users of Lanzarote resident, pensioner and special pensioner, large family, unemployed; youth, disability and student passes. In the case of the Canary resident pass card, its price will be reduced from 20 to 10 euros per month with unlimited trips.

From the Cabildo they point out that these reductions will occur "automatically from September 1 to December 31, 2022", with specific conditions of use adapted to the established bonus period. To access these reductions, the user will not have to carry out any type of procedure, but it will be activated on September 1.

In addition to this, the Island Corporation has launched a complementary measure, so that it has extended the bonus of the Canary Resident Frequent Use Pass for work reasons "up to 100%, so it can be obtained for free".

All those employees, both employed and self-employed, who are residents, may benefit from this measure. For this, users who already have the Canary resident pass must request validation, attaching the responsible declaration with which it is accredited that they meet the conditions to access the gratuity.

The person benefiting from this additional bonus will be obliged to make frequent use of the title, having to make at least 20 trips for each of the months of September, October, November and December 2022 or, failing that, at least a total of 80 trips in the period between September 1 and December 31, 2022, both inclusive.

The Cabildo also points out that the new frequent use pass is "personal and non-transferable, valid for making unlimited trips between any origin and destination in the regular intercity passenger transport in Lanzarote". Failure to comply with the requirements of the beneficiary may mean the reimbursement of the total amount of the additional bonus received, the total amount of which is 40 euros for the entire period (September 1 to December 31) or 10 euros per month.

To obtain the free pass for frequent travelers, it is necessary to request it preferably on the website of the Arrecife Bus company, or at the Arrecife Bus Station. This process began this Friday, August 26, with the presentation of the application, although the passes cannot be withdrawn until the 30th.

Those interested in obtaining more information can go to the Cabildo of Lanzarote, or can send an email to atencioninformacionciudadana@cabildodelanzarote.com. Similarly, they can go to the Arrecife Bus Face-to-face Assistance office located at the Arrecife Bus Station, from Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 18:30 and Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from 09:00 to 13:00, or call 928 811 522 during the same hours.

"The situation described justifies the increase in public aid to public transport users as never before, with the island institution contributing economic resources to those from the State and the Government of the Canary Islands”, says the president of the Cabildo, María Dolores Corujo.

For his part, the Minister of Transport, Marcos Bergaz, explains that this initiative “allows us to continue facing situations of social and economic vulnerability and thus promoting the use of intercity public transport by bus”. "Likewise, we promote the change to a safer, more reliable, comfortable, economical and sustainable means of transport than the private vehicle, moving closer and closer towards a more eco-sustainable model”, adds the councilor.

"With these measures, we contribute to citizens using public transport, which translates into a reduction in the carbon footprint and a further step towards sustainability”, details Bergaz.
