They have already passed through Tenerife and El Hierro and will visit some more islands before landing next Saturday on the island of volcanoes. That day "the people of Lanzarote have a more than important reason to go out into the street", said the president of the Cabildo, Inés Rojas, who hopes that "the population will get involved with the visit, mainly with the inauguration of the Titerroy Health Center".

Don Juan Carlos and Doña Sofía will attend the inauguration of the expansion of the health center in the Arrecife neighborhood on the 25th at 5:00 p.m., and the Cabildo is already finalizing the preparation of the events related to this visit. Before the inauguration, they will have lunch with a social representation of the Island.

The monarch stated that with his visit to the islands, on the occasion of the commemoration of the first centenary of the visit to the Canary Islands by King Alfonso XIII, they wish to "renew the commitment of the Crown to all Canarians". A commitment that has remained firm throughout history, he assured.

A tight schedule

The first stop was Tenerife. On Wednesday afternoon, Don Juan Carlos I and Doña Sofía met with the President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Adán Martín, the Minister of Justice, Juan Fernando López Aguilar and other institutional representatives. In the evening, the monarch spoke at the dinner offered by the Government of the Canary Islands at the headquarters of the Presidency in Tenerife.

In his speech, he reiterated the firm will to fight against trafficking in human beings and insisted on the commitment to promote the economic development of peoples, combat poverty and work in favor of human rights. Furthermore, he said that this is not a problem that only affects the Canarians, "but the rest of Spain and the whole of Europe".

The second stop was the island of El Hierro. On Thursday morning they arrived on the Island where they will continue with a tight schedule, before leaving for La Gomera to return to Tenerife at night.
