The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, remembers today the figure of César Manrique on the 30th anniversary of his death.
“Three decades ago we lost the genius, our Favorite Son, but his light and his speech are even more valid for a world in permanent conflict and a planet facing the threat of climate change” Corujo pointed out.
“More than ever, figures like César Manrique are necessary, a man who used dialogue as a means for encounter and made art a brilliant way of expressing his deep love for nature.”
The president of the First Institution wants to highlight “Manrique's ability to see with different eyes”, and “his enthusiasm and leadership to transform the landscape of this island and the thinking of an entire generation of Lanzarote residents who discovered the territory in which he was born through his eyes. The man who started this great adventure that is the Tourist Centers, artistic jewels that showed this island to the world and the tourism industry but, more importantly, that became the way of life for dozens of families from Lanzarote.”
We must recognize “the figure of the awakened gaze and the restless mind, the artist and the leader, the man who awakened in all of us the pride of belonging to Lanzarote.”
