Teachers from the La Graciosa school request free boat travel due to the “null” possibilities of living on the island

They have started collecting signatures through the Change.org platform. They assure that in addition to the ferry ticket money, they have to pay for the fuel to get to Órzola, which they consider a "double comparative grievance"

The workers of the CEO Ignacio Aldecoa of La Graciosa have requested that the boat that connects the eighth island with Lanzarote be free of charge due, among other things, to the "null" possibilities of being able to live on the eighth island, "massified by tourism."

"The real options of staying are very expensive, which forces us, along with other considerations related to family reconciliation, to travel daily from Lanzarote", explain the teachers, who have started collecting signatures through the Change.org platform.

"The public education workers of La Graciosa are once again forced to face the costs of our travel between islands", add the teachers, who point out that in addition to having to pay for the boat that connects both islands, they also have to pay for the fuel to travel to the port of Órzola, which is "a double comparative grievance."

"We consider that this situation that the public administrations have maintained for years is unsustainable, especially in the current context", denounce the teachers, who assure that they live in "continuous fear" of the increase in ticket prices, since they maintain that since July of this year "they have already increased by 10%".

The teachers point out that this situation causes "resignations, leaves and a global attitude on the part of the teaching staff to provide service on the eighth island", which in turn results in "unstable cloisters and a decrease in educational quality."

"We therefore request that the responsible public administrations, mainly the Ministry of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands and the Cabildo of Lanzarote, assume the costs of boat mobility for all teachers who travel by this means", conclude the teachers of the CEO Ignacio Aldecoa.
