Students from Lanzarote spent an average of 9,416 euros during the last academic year. This is according to the Survey of Lanzarote students studying outside the island (course 2024/2025), published by the Data Center.
Specifically, the expense is higher for those who choose to study in the peninsula, whose expenses amount to 10,447 euros per course. If, on the other hand, they choose to study at one of the two Canarian universities, Gran Canaria is cheaper, with an average of 7,061 euros, than Tenerife, with 8,530 euros of average expenditure per course. The difference between studying in the peninsula and doing so in the Canary Islands is approximately 2,651.5 euros.
According to these figures, more than half of the expenditure is allocated to accommodation, representing an expense of 521 euros per month (or 4,945 during the course). To this is added 260 euros (2,466 euros) for monthly maintenance and approximately 1,1184 euros to pay the annual tuition fee. In addition, this study shows that on average students spend 820 euros on transport, both public and air and sea transfers.
The research states that accommodation is an "economic barrier" for students to leave the island, while maritime or air transport to the place represents 5% of total expenses.
In these cases, most students choose to rent an apartment (65%), followed by those who opt to stay in a hall of residence or residence hall (26%). In contrast, only a small part (6%) stays in the home of family and friends or 1% in room rentals.
