Rancho Texas Lanzarote Park has taken charge of the animals that remained in the Guinate zoo after its closure, already offering them the necessary care for their recovery, through the park's animal welfare department. That zoo, as recalled from Rancho Texas, was "closed a year ago due to complaints filed by Seprona (Civil Guard) and various non-governmental organizations."

At the end of last March, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries and the Biodiversity Service of the General Directorate of Nature Protection of the Government of the Canary Islands asked this company to take charge of the animals that remained in the facilities. In total, up to 30 animals are being transferred to Rancho Texas, including seven crocodiles, a capybara, two rheas, an Arctic fox, two porcupines, a cockatoo and six macaws.

These animals will now be under the care of their animal welfare department, which "is made up of veterinarians, biologists and experts in exotic species", according to Rancho Texas. For their recovery, according to the theme park, "a protocol is being carried out to minimize the stereotypes and stress suffered by these animals, which in some cases also have health problems."

Temporary reception

The official decision of the transfer was taken by the Head of the Registration, Traceability, Identification and Animal Transport Section of the General Directorate of Livestock, Antonio Manuel Cardona Romero, and by Sonia Martín de Abreu, of the Biodiversity Service of the General Directorate of Nature Protection. Both "considered that the adopted measure guarantees the care that these animals need", according to the theme park.

The company will thus temporarily take charge of these animals from the Guinate zoo. Afterwards, they explain that "once the experts from Rancho Texas Lanzarote Park deem it appropriate, and always with the authorization of the General Directorate of Nature Protection of the Government of the Canary Islands, the animals that due to their characteristics cannot be located in the facilities of this park in Lanzarote will be transferred to other national or European zoos."
