The Yaiza City Council makes a new call for social responsibility and prudence from this Monday, May 25, when Lanzarote begins phase 2 of what the Spanish Government calls Transition to the New Normal. The beach of Playa Blanca, directly managed by the City Council, is the only southern beach that is currently open to the public and is ready to receive bathers from 10:00 a.m. Although phase 2 generally allows the use of beaches, each city council can establish access limitations, as provided for in the Government order. In Lanzarote, the seven mayors and the president of the Cabildo have opted for caution to analyze the evolution of the influx to the beaches and incidents detected at the weekly meeting on Tuesday due to the pandemic crisis in order to adopt new decisions.

Playa Blanca 2

The improvement and accessibility works had already been completed on Playa Blanca beach and disinfection work was carried out this Sunday. The beaches open for swimming must not only guarantee the measures recommended by the health authorities to avoid the possible spread of covid-19, but must also guarantee the safety of bathers, taking for granted the individual responsibility of users in complying with the measures, including the interpersonal distance of two meters both on the sand and in the water, except in the case of members of cohabiting families.

The opening hours are from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with preference for those over 65 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Swimming, sunbathing, walking and individual sports activities are allowed.

The use of public toilets, showers, footbaths, hammocks, collective sports activities, barbecues, igloos or windbreaks, mats, as well as the use of any play element in the sea is not allowed. Yaiza has installed signage on Playa Blanca beach reminding of these recommendations and has also installed signage on the rest of the beaches warning of the temporary prohibition of access.
