Lanzarote recorded more than 2,400 workplace accidents in 2024. The island of volcanoes is the second in the province with the highest percentage of accidents in the workplace, second only to Gran Canaria.
According to data published by the Lanzarote Data Center, workplace accidents have decreased by 0.05% between January and August this year compared to the same period in 2024. In the first eight months of this year, there were 1,510 workplace accidents, while in 2024 there were 1,597.
According to figures from the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics (ISTAC), workplace accidents are more frequent in men than in women. In total, men suffered 1,473 workplace accidents throughout the year, compared to 929 suffered by women. Of these, the majority were minor, with only one fatal case and ten serious ones.
By municipality, the majority of workplace accidents involving men have occurred in Arrecife (34.6%), Yaiza (20.8%), and Tías (16.7%). Meanwhile, the majority of workplace accidents involving women have occurred in Yaiza (26.2%), Tías (23.8%), and Arrecife (23%).
More Accidents in Spring and Summer
For months, the months of 2024 with the most workplace accidents were April and August, with 239 and 237 workplace accidents recorded, respectively. Meanwhile, in 2025 and, to date, the month of May has been the one with the most incidents, with 277.
