Lanzarote recorded a wind gust of 101.2 kilometers per hour this Thursday during the storm that hit the island. This value was reached in Haría, near the cemetery, at 3:30 p.m., according to the head of Aemet in the Canary Islands, Irene Sanz.

Aemet had decreed the orange alert and it was for good reason, since the front associated with a storm left intense rainfall and winds with very strong gusts throughout the island. Thus, in addition to Haría, in Tinajo another gust of 90.7 kilometers per hour was recorded at 6:00 a.m., and another of the same value at 8:00 a.m. And this, on top of that, was not the strongest. Thus, at 1:50 p.m. the wind blew so hard that it left a gust of 96.5 kilometers per hour.

In Arrecife, the strong air was also noticeable. At 3:50 p.m., the station located at the Guacimeta airport recorded a gust of 85.3 kilometers per hour, while another of 85 was recorded in the early morning. "Between 12:00 and 16:00 the wind blew strongly and the values were between 74 and 85 kilometers per hour", Irene Sanz explained.

The rainfall also fell strongly on the island, causing the overflow of sewers, cisterns and the closure of roads due to the accumulation of water. Thus, according to Aemet, this Wednesday in Tinajo 42.8 liters of water fell and in La Graciosa, 51.2 liters. In Arrecife, it did not rain so much on Wednesday, but on Thursday the rainfall was noticeable. Aemet counted 41 liters of water in one hour in the capital.

A new storm is approaching

The forecasts for the weekend are good but, however, this streak will not last too long. In the early morning of Saturday to Sunday, another front associated with another storm will approach from the west of La Palma, which will begin to leave rainfall in Lanzarote throughout Sunday.

Aemet predicts that the rains will not be very intense, although it is expected to rain for many hours, so a large amount of water may accumulate again, which could cause new problems.
