"We are doing this protest because social services are in danger of extinction." This is how the president of Cáritas Lanzarote, María Dolores Villalba, explained the objective of the orange tide that took place this Wednesday on Calle Real, in Arrecife, to denounce the cuts in this area.
A small group of people tried to raise awareness among the residents of the capital about the situation of social services. In addition, they read a manifesto and even composed a song for this event. "We need social services that serve people, especially the most disadvantaged," said the president of Cáritas in Lanzarote.
This orange tide not only took place in Arrecife, but took place in many parts of Spain. "We cannot stay in the space of complaint, we must also denounce this situation," defended Villalba, who recalled that social services "are a right, not a gift."
Throughout the Canary Islands, more than 450 people joined this day of protest. Thus, concentrations were held in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, San Miguel, Ingenio, Telde, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, San Mateo, Puerto del Rosario, Betancuria, Tuineje, La Oliva, Antigua and Arrecife.
The participants in this orange tide delivered their demands and proposals to the registry of the Government of the Canary Islands so that they can be sent to the Government of Spain, the island councils and each of the municipalities of the Islands.
