The Catholic community of the parish of Nuestra Señora del Carmen in Valterra experienced a historic day last Saturday with the celebration of the Golden Jubilee of Sister Teresa Orosa.
At 7:00 p.m., the Solemn Eucharist began, presided over by the parish priest, Nicanor Bermúdez, who was assisted by seminarian Daniel to commemorate the religious sister's fifty years. Teresa Orosa belongs to the Congregation Beata Madre Matilde Téllez Robles, founder of the Institute of "Daughters of Mary Mother of the Church." "Half a century of Consecration means a long life of joyful dedication and generous service to God in our brothers and sisters, a living testimony and Christian faith with greater commitment and dedication as Sister Teresa Orosa Cabrera has been doing during all these years."
The church facilities were full to the permitted capacity with a representation of the Sisters of the Congregation, family members, friends and parishioners from various parts of the island. The musical part was enlivened on the piano by Professor Pepe Artilles and with the voice of the Lanzarote singer, a friend of the Orosa Cabrera family, the tenor Antonio Borges.
In the Eucharist, the parish priest, Nicanor Bermúdez, blessed the image of the Blessed Matilde Téllez donated to the parish of Valterra by the "Daughters of Mary Mother of the Church." The very emotional and festive celebration ended with the blessing of the new "Custody", and the procession with the Blessed Sacrament inside the church. Sister Teresa Orosa Cabrera, very excited, thanked all those present for their attendance on such a special day that "encourages her to continue working to help those most in need."
Matilde Téllez Robles, Founder of the Institute of "Daughters of Mary Mother of the Church"
The Blessed Mother Matilde Téllez Robles, Founder of the Institute of "Daughters of Mary Mother of the Church", was born in Robledillo de la Vera (Cáceres) on May 30, 1841. She opened the first House of the Institute in Béjar (Salamanca) on March 19, 1875. She died saintly in Don Benito (Badajoz) on December 17, 1902
Of a profoundly Eucharistic and Marian spirit, she practiced the fundamental Christian virtues to a heroic degree, standing out above all in charity, through the experience of an ardent love for Jesus-Eucharist and a generous dedication to the service of her brothers and sisters; of the sick, the poor, the young and especially orphaned and needy girls.
On March 21, 2004 she was Beatified by John Paul II in Rome.
