The Rotarians of Lanzarote have renewed their board of directors, and Juan Antonio Pérez Cejudo assumed the presidency of the Rotary Club on the island, during the institutional event that took place in the halls of the Arrecife Gran Hotel, with the presence of authorities, representatives of the social, cultural and economic sectors, and Rotarians from different islands and the Peninsula.

Dr. Pérez Cejudo replaces Oti Aguilar, who has been the president of the conejeros Rotarians for the past twelve months. Juan Antonio Pérez Cejudo, a native of Lanzarote, holds a doctorate in Dermatology and works at the Doctor Molina Orosa Hospital in Lanzarote.

During this new Rotary year, Pérez Cejudo will be accompanied on his board of directors by Ana María Oncina, director of ESACAN Canarias, as secretary; Germán Alpuín, a graduate in Labor Relations, as treasurer; and the former vice president of Unión Deportiva Lanzarote, Rafael Montero, as head of the Rotary Foundation. They are also joined, as members of the board of directors, by journalist Severino Betancort; the former manager of La Caixa in Lanzarote, Domingo Matos, and the industrial businessman Ventura Acuña.

Rotary is a philanthropic and humanitarian association that is present in nearly 200 countries through more than 30,000 clubs.

Juan Antonio Pérez Cejudo stated during his speech that he will continue to support and promote solidarity initiatives for the groups on the Island of Lanzarote. Among the speeches during the event, those of the vice president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Joaquín Caraballo, and councilor Rafael Juan González, representing the Arrecife City Council, stood out.

Since the creation of Rotary Club Lanzarote in 1992, they have collaborated with different humanitarian initiatives. The Rotarians have helped different groups and families on the island. Thus, they have donated the therapeutic pool and gymnasium of ADISLAN, in Tahíche; they have acquired and donated a 9-seater van for El Cribo, and others for AFACODA (Association of Relatives against drugs in Arrecife).

In recent months, they have also actively helped Calor y Café and Cáritas in their soup kitchens and have allocated nearly 50,000 euros to the Association of Relatives and Sufferers of Alzheimer's in Lanzarote (AFA). In addition, the Red Cross has several adapted chairs and a medicalized ambulance that could be acquired thanks to the collaboration of Rotary, among other groups and NGOs. Recently, they have collaborated, in part, in the donation of a special vehicle to the young paraplegic Francisco Javier Roldán Padrón.

During this new Rotary year (from July 1 to June 30, 2013), Rotary Club Lanzarote will carry out different projects to commemorate the 20 years of Rotary in Lanzarote.
