A large group of people look at La Graciosa at the opening of 'Y ocho. Homage to a small island'

The success was absolute. The facilities of the Torrelavega Society of Culture, Recreation and Sports did not have more space to accommodate the large number of people who attended the inauguration of the conference 'y ocho. Homage to a small island'.

The attendance of the public from the social, cultural and political life of Lanzarote was impressive. From the Fisheries Councilor of the Cabildo Marcos Páez to the advisor of the Independent Party of Lanzarote Dimas Martín accompanied by Emilia Perdomo and María José Docal, passing through the Festivities Councilor of Arrecife Encarna Páez, the Culture Councilor of Arrecife Florián Corujo, the president of Coalición Canaria Mario Pérez, the Culture Councilor of the First Institution Miguel González, the Education Councilor of Arrecife Carmelo García Déniz, the Economy and Finance Councilor of the Island Corporation Luis Celestino Arráez, the Councilor of the Popular Party of Arrecife Eugenio Hernández, the Councilor of Teguise of the PP Rita Martín or the first deputy mayor of Teguise Domingo Cejas as well as the first mayor of this municipality Juan Pedro Hernández and members of the Canarian Nationalist Party were gathered there.

The opening ceremony began with the speech of Félix Martín Hormiga, head of the Culture commission of the Torrelavega Society. The expert gave an account of the aspects on which the exhibition and these cultural days are based. His intervention was one of the most applauded of the night.

At the end, the president of the Torrelavega Society Edmundo de la Hoz, who had words of gratitude for all the attendees who exceeded all expectations, as the public did not fit inside the facilities of the Torrelvaga Society, came to the lectern. In addition, he expressed his gratitude to the collaborating entities, commercial firms and media for their support to this exhibition.

Heartfelt and emotional words

Next, the mayor of the town of Teguise Juan Pedro Hernández took the stage representing his City Council and especially the people of La Graciosa. The mayor was impressed with the exhibition and the response of the people to the island of La Graciosa. Thus, he had heartfelt and emotional words to the citizens of the eighth island and thanked the Torrelavega Society for these cultural initiatives.

Then it was the turn of the Councilor for Education and Culture of the Cabildo Miguel González who praised his predecessors and pledged to continue supporting this kind of cultural events. The mayor of Arrecife Isabel Déniz also wanted to participate and pledged to maintain this culture ensuring that we must fight because it is the identity of the people.

Music

In a more relaxed tone after the protocol act, the musical event began with the Toledo family, closely linked to La Graciosa since its promoter Luis Toledo was born on the most important island of the Chinijo Archipelago. This is the first event in which the family participates after the death of the group's promoter last July. For this reason, his children and family were there to continue with the message that Luis Toledo started in his day.

The parranda played in an impressive way because of the characteristic way of carrying out the folklore of La Graciosa and Lanzarote, in a word, sailor. For this reason, although they are not lovers of the stage because they prefer improvisation, the truth is that since 1980 the parranda Los Toledo is required to participate in the tenderete that Nanino Díaz Cutillas took in his day. In the show they gave the size, sang and paid tribute to its promoter Luis Toledo with a varied repertoire in which you could hear from isas parranderas to malagueñas and folías.
