The investigation, carried out by the Local Judicial Police Brigade, was initiated at the end of 2007, with the first arrest of four people last June. These defendants respond to the initials M.R.R. 24 years old and a native of Seville, A.M.T.R. 38 years old born in Cuba, C.N.E. 29 years old and a native of Arrecife and L.V.O.M. native of Colombia. This last person, according to confirmations from the Provincial Headquarters, "although she did not participate 'de facto' in the assaults, she did provide information to the group."
Subsequently, also related to these criminal acts, in the month of July S.C.A. has been arrested, who is charged with several crimes of robbery with intimidation and attempted murder, in addition to Z.E.G.D. and J.J.A.U. These last three subjects were placed at the disposal of the Investigating Court Number Two of Arrecife, who ordered the imprisonment of the first of them.
So far, five robberies with violence have been clarified, although the Canary Islands Police Headquarters has reported that it is an issue that "is in court", so they cannot give more information in relation to the dates on which the criminal acts occurred or the specific places where they occurred. Even so, they have been able to confirm that the seven people arrested are related to the violent robbery of a brothel in the capital last June.
According to information provided by the National Police, the victims of these crimes were owners, employees and administrative staff who held different positions in various companies or establishments, with the common characteristic that they all carried the collection.
Modus Operandi
In relation to the modus operandi (method of operation), the National Police has reported that, first, the detainees collected information about the possible victims, selected them and subjected them to surveillance for a while. The assault was carried out either when the person entered their home, in the garage or in the establishment where they worked. They covered themselves with balaclavas to threaten and hit the victim in order to seize money or valuables.
