An 80-year-old fisherman died on Tuesday afternoon after falling into the sea at Don Pancho beach, in Los Cocoteros in the municipality of Teguise. Specifically, it is the resident of Yaiza, Gregorio Betancort.
Betancort is known for being the owner of Casa Gregorio in the Yaiza town of Uga, a place he ran for years until his retirement. Currently, the restaurant is leased by another person.
Gregorio Betancort's death occurred around 7:30 p.m. At that time, the Coordinating Center for Emergencies and Security received the communication that a fisherman had fallen into the sea in a rocky area, who was rescued from the water, but had suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest.
Despite the resuscitation maneuvers of the caller and then of the Canary Islands Emergency Service personnel, the man died.
For his part, the mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, has conveyed his condolences to the family, friends and relatives of Gregorio Betancort in his name and on behalf of the City Council.
