The Prosecutor's Office has requested a year in prison for the alleged abusers of King, the dog that was found on the verge of death in the Volcán de la Corona in February 2016 after being beaten. A penalty of three years of special disqualification for the exercise of a profession, trade or business related to animals, as well as for the possession thereof, is also requested for the two defendants, S.M.H.S. and A.D.L.M.H.S.
The Public Prosecutor considers that the two defendants, placed "prior and by mutual agreement", went on February 28, 2016 to the Volcán de la Corona "in the company of a male dog without a chip and, with the intention of causing physical and unjustified damage to the animal, equipped with a wooden stick, they beat him and gave him successive kicks and blows to conclude by throwing him down the side of the ravine and throwing a stone on top of him."
According to the Prosecutor's Office, the two defendants caused the animal "a deep hemorrhagic open wound on the head, cranial, nasal and anal hemorrhage and respiratory failure, endangering the life of the animal, which was diagnosed with severe traumatic brain injury and contusions in the thoracic area", facts that it considers constitutive of an animal abuse crime.
The alleged abusers were located a year later
It must be remembered that it was a couple who were walking through the Volcán de la Corona who found the animal after hearing "some howls of authentic pain", according to the Local Police report. The two walkers followed the howls to come to the rescue of the animal, being able to see how two men "broke a stick on the dog's head" and picked up "stones from the ground" and began "to hit him with them as well." When they shouted asking them to stop, the alleged abusers fled in their vehicle.
After being rescued by the couple, the dog was handed over to the Local Police, who contacted the Sara animal shelter, where King arrived in a very critical condition, although, luckily, he survived and was found a new home. A year later, Sara announced that the Nature Protection Service (Seprona) of the Civil Guard had managed to "identify and charge" King's alleged abusers "thanks to citizen collaboration."
