Matagorda beach has been closed to the public this Sunday after detecting a considerable spill in its waters. The alert was issued by lifeguards in the area, who identified the presence of a stain that extended along several meters and immediately alerted the Emergency and Security Consortium of Lanzarote.
An NGO boat Emerlan quickly moved to the place to assess the situation and collaborate in the preventive closure of the sand. Both lifeguards and emergency personnel raised the red flag and prohibited bathing while investigations and control work are carried out.
At the moment, the exact origin of the spill has not been confirmed. The size of the stain and its proximity to the shore have motivated the immediate application of the security protocol to avoid risks to the health of the bathers and the marine ecosystem.
