A 41-year-old woman has been injured after a gas oven exploded in a hotel kitchen in Playa Blanca, according to the management of the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium. The incident occurred around 5:00 a.m. this Tuesday to Wednesday, according to the Canary Islands Government's Emergency and Security Coordinating Center (Cecoes) 112.
The 112 received an alert reporting that there had been "an explosion" in a hotel kitchen. Agents from the Consortium, paramedics from the Canary Emergency Service (SUC), Local Police and Civil Protection were transferred there.
From the Consortium they have explained that when the firefighters arrived they practically did not have to act, since "the Police had already ventilated" the installation. The affected woman did have to be treated for smoke inhalation, although of a mild nature. She was transferred by paramedics to the Playa Blanca health center.
On the contrary, from the hotel they have assured that "there has been no explosion at any time" and that the affected woman had to be transferred due to an anxiety attack and not due to smoke inhalation. And, according to what they have explained, this person "due to nerves" has made a mistake and instead of pressing a button so that the gas returns to its normal course, she has given another that serves in case of fire.
In these cases, the fires are extinguished with a material that is placed in the hoods and that has a lid. According to the hotel, the loud noise that has been heard has been caused by the lid where the powder is contained that comes out under pressure in case of fire and not by any explosion.
