A sailboat ran aground last Sunday night near the castle of San Gabriel, in Arrecife. Its only crew member was unharmed and was rescued without problems by Maritime Rescue, which coordinated the operation.
As the Lanzarote Emergency and Security Consortium has informed La Voz, the ship entered the coast of Arrecife at high tide, but was sailing through an area "with little depth", so it ended up running aground.
After receiving the warning, firefighters and Maritime Rescue went to the scene and rescued a man. This crew member was transferred to a health center to be examined by a doctor, although he did not suffer any injuries.
After the mishap, the sailboat was practically destroyed. There is a lot of material damage that the ship has suffered and now the insurer is studying how to get the sailboat out of the coasts of Arrecife.
For the moment, the firefighters have already managed to rescue the 500 liters of fuel that were inside the ship to avoid water contamination. For this, they have been working all this Tuesday with the boat practically tilted.
