"They are driving me crazy. They have left the glass in a mess." This is how a resident of the island denounced this Wednesday the theft suffered in his car when it was parked in a parking lot near the Volcán del Cuervo. According to him, in the same parking lot there were three other vehicles with broken windows. In addition, he assures that this has been repeating for weeks in the same area, which has previously suffered other waves of robberies.
For its part, the Civil Guard has confirmed to La Voz that in recent days at least three complaints have been filed, one of them for a robbery in the municipality of Yaiza, precisely in that area of the Volcán del Cuervo, and two others in the municipality of San Bartolomé.
"We do not rule out that there are more, because this is recurrent," they point out from the Benemérita. In fact, he recalls that a few weeks ago two people were arrested for similar events. On that occasion, those arrested had traveled to the island from Tenerife and focused their activity on rental cars parked in tourist areas of the island.
"It's always the same modus operandi"
"It is always the same modus operandi: breaking the glass with a blunt object or prying open the door," they point out from the Civil Guard. Most of these cases usually occur in rental vehicles, although the affected person who contacted La Voz is a resident of the island, who demands that action be taken to stop this new wave of robberies.
For its part, the Civil Guard recommends that drivers take precautions, especially when parking the car in certain areas. Among them, check that the vehicle has been left perfectly closed, doors and windows; avoid leaving any valuable item or object in sight and, in general, try not to leave this type of object in the car.
In addition, they appeal to citizen collaboration to inform the police forces of "any person who raises their suspicions in the area, such as people who walk around without apparent reason among the parked vehicles or observe the same vehicle on several occasions prowling around the place." In case of being the victim of a robbery, they ask that you "remain calm" and do not touch anything "that may have been manipulated by the thieves" until the agents arrive.
